Hartpury College And Beechen Cliff Secure AASE Final Places

Beechen Cliff and Hartpury College will meet in the AASE Final at Allianz Park on Wednesday 5th December after a brilliant final round of AASE League action.

Beechen Cliff has been dominant throughout the season and proved that again in this final round to seal their place, but it has been a tougher ride for reigning champions Hartpury, who were beaten by Beechen Cliff in Phase 1, they had a real battle on their hands against Truro to secure their final place.

Division 1 – Pool A

This section was all about Hartpury v Truro in what was effectively a semi-final. Hartpury had put sixty past Truro in Phase 1, but this Phase 2 Truro outfit has been a different kettle of fish. An extraordinarily tough and exhausting encounter, both physically and emotionally took place, with Hartpury just edging out a brave and battling Truro side to win 20-19. It sends them back to the final, but possibly for the first time in their history, Hartpury will head to the final as underdogs.

The other game in Pool A was for third and fourth in the table, Gosforth taking the third spot with an exciting 29-25 victory away at Brooksby Melton College.

Division 1 – Pool B

From day 1 in the AASE League this year Beechen Cliff has been on fire and they were again on Wednesday as they beat Bishop Burton College 57-7 to reach the final. It means that from their nine games Beechen Cliff have taken the maximum 45 points, a bonus point win in every single game. It is an extraordinary achievement and rightly sends them to the final as favourites.

Exeter College had slim hopes of reaching the final, they had to hope Beechen Cliff lost and then they had to beat Oaklands College with a bonus point. They did their bit, winning 34-22, but they got no favours from Beechen Cliff. That means Exeter will play the third-place play-off against Truro College on Tuesday 4th December, when the 5th, 7th, 9th, 11th, and 13th place playoffs will also take place.

Division 2 – North Pool

Myerscough College will play the 9th place playoff on Tuesday 4th, or the Division 2 Final to view it another way after they beat Stourport 25-14. The result left Stourport bottom of the division on points difference, behind Moulton in third. Myerscough will face SGS Filton College in that Division 2 Final.

Division 2 – South Pool

It has been an extraordinary turnaround for Filton College since their slow start to the season, and that brilliant run continued on Wednesday as they beat St Paul’s Catholic College 36-29 to reach the Division 2 final against Myerscough. The result leaves St Paul’s second in the pool, with Henley College adrift in third.
