Sunday sees the School 7s season return in style after a bit of a weather enforced break last weekend.
The South West 7s take places, hosted at U18 level by Taunton School. The tournament also has U16 and u14 components, hosted by King’s College Taunton and Queen’s College Taunton respectively.
The U18 competition features sixteen schools, split into four groups of four. The top side from each group heads to the Cup semi-finals, second place to the Plate semis, third to the Bowl semis, and fourth place to their Shield semi-finals.
There are some strong sides and competitive groups, not least in Group 2 where Blundell’s, who won the Vase at Rosslyn Park last year, will go head to head with an excellent Clifton College side. With Wellington School and Prior Park College also in that group, it will certainly be one to keep an eye on.
The hosts, Taunton School, are drawn in Group 3 were two sides that consistently have quietly been very good are joining them, Exeter School and Truro School, while schools rugby’s sleeping giants, Bryanston, round off the group.
Co-hosts of the overall tournament, King’s College Taunton, are in Group 1 where Plymouth College will be among their major challenges, so too Mount Kelly and Canford.
Millfield returns to the competition after missing last year’s draw, the school 7s legends are in Group 4 along with Cheltenham, so good on the 7s circuit last year, Richard Huish, and a Colston’s side that enjoyed a superb 7s season last year.
All in all, it should be an awesome day of rugby!
